A City in a House
Building a single structure which is to contain the entire dynamic of city life is a huge challenge that requires special attention to aspects of human fulfillment and dignity in terms of how these are conditioned by the urban environment. The project’s roofscape offers a wide range of outdoor qualities and recreational areas. The concept of “the city as a house” seeks to build upon the success of the single-structure commercial center and to develop the principle further by infusing the single structure with all of the other aspects of life, such as housing, workplace, leisure, culture, et cetera. This creates a dynamic reminiscent of the medieval walled town, where the entirety of life took place within tight parameters.
