Each year, the Norwegian Concrete Association in collaboration with the National Association of Norwegian Architects, grant an award for outstanding use of concrete in architecture. Reiulf Ramstad Architects have been awarded twice before, in 2012 and 2013 – and was nominated again this year for the Cultural Center "Kimen" in Stjørdal.
On the Concrete Day celebration on December 3rd, we were honoured to receive the award for a third time! This time the awarded project was a fruitful collaboration between RRA, Lusparken Arkitekter and JST Arkitekter. We congratulate Kimen Cultural Center on the recognition of its outstanding quality of concrete!
As stated in the jury's statement, the project demonstrates "a comprehensive and sophisticated use of concrete in an elegant union with other materials. Kimen is an outstanding piece of architecture that works equally well for everyday life as for celebration or sorrow."
For now, let's celebrate!
The Cultural Center of Stjørdal is an important node of the community, both locally and in the region. The building is a place for all people interested in culture to explore and develop their abilities and talents. Its facilities consists of a library, youth center, theatre and concert halls, cinemas, and venues for dance, music, media, art and other activities. In addition it incorporates a community church and office spaces, within the same envelope. The project is anchored in and inspired by the history and culture of its location. At the same time, the architecture conveys its modern function and the pulse of the time and place. The Cultural Center of Stjørdal is designed to be an inspiring place that provides the visitors with experiences and opportunities, thus contributing to a rich locational, cultural and architectural experience.
