Center for Human Rights Organizations
The former State Archive and Gestapo headquarters is today a national center for human rights and historical reflection. In this proposal, the existing building and the new building are resolved with the idea of dialogue and social interaction in mind. The starting point for the project is the existing building, which forms the basis for the center with its clear and rudimentary shapes, materials, and construction. Circulation and accessibility play prominent roles in the restructuring of the center. Varying visual room sequences are created based on the existing structure with connections toward the landscape, the site, and the building interior. The interconnection between the existing building and the new one creates a dialogue between the two unities, which appear as one single entity.
