The new school campus is located on the edge between the alps and the suburbs from Vienna. The building side is characterized by two different sides, a narrow old town, and on the other side a residential area with individual houses. The diversity of the site and of the small town is transformed to synergy, a place where local residents and visitors exchange with students from the whole municipality. The school campus consists of different schools. The location and the exchanges between them is the main focus of the design. The design offers a balanced level of sheltered and open areas. Although the new school is a building with a strong urban gesture, the building consists of an arrangment of smaller individual structures. Inspired by the city structure of Gloggnitz the different schools are stringed together creating high quality outer spaces with different characters. This structure provides a simple internal access of the building, providing a good orientation for the students.
Semipublic communication areas strengthen the exchange between the different areas. The new school campus is open to the inhabitants of Gloggnitz, allowing taking profit from the school, such as the hall, the library and the sport facilities. The new school center Gloggnitz becomes a new meeting place for all the inhabitants of Gloggnitz.
