Kindergartens shape the basic skills of small children and leave a lasting impact for the rest of the life. The project aims to create an imaginative environment with the kids in focus, while it provides a good working environment for the adults by providing a flexible organization, logical functionality, good design of rooms and versatile outdoor facilities.
The kindergarten consists of a compact building volume at the highest of the plot to the north-west, in order to create good outdoor areas to the southwest and be easily accessible from the main street on the west side. The building has a simple shape that is easily understandable and simultaneously presents a diverse spatial sequence parallel to the growth of its primary users. Carefully positioned glazed openings and an internal double height space provides good natural lighting and appropriate visibility between the inside and the outside.
Energy consumption and sustainability are another focus of the project. Through volume studies, we have ensured a large portion of the roof is south-facing, which optimizes solar energy collected by the photovoltaic panels on its surface, and smaller sections of sedum green roofs to the north. Furthermore, the children’s tactile experience of the surroundings is ensured by using the most natural and organic materials.
