Life Science Building, University of Oslo
The University is the result of the interaction between several educational systems, philosophies and research programs. Therefore, it is a room for opportunities in constant flux. The design reveals a sustainable organism in constant dialogue with the environment and users, a place where change and exchange are symbols of value. The project has a basic matrix that facilitates further development based on the efficient space organization strategies and standardized solutions initially set. All facility rooms are organized around a central vein throughout the building where the Library and Learning Center in southwest and the canteen in the northeast constitute functional anchors. The building also adds value to its urban context creating a new attractive, green and car-free recreational area along the river.
The project is a collaboration with Arkitema Architects. Illustrations by Arkitema and RRA.
