New Vienna Museum
The new Vienna museum is an open house, a forum to discuss the history and the future of Vienna. The proposal is an extension with a new building located towards the park with a respectful distance to the existing building. By this intervention the museum creates a contrast to the old buildings, but is experienced as a pavilion in the park. The existing museum becomes part of the exhibition itself. The vertical space between the old and the new building offers a "city forum" - a multifunctional space. This special quality of being in between the old and the new will create an inspiring place for the discussion of the future of the city.
The exhibition leads the visitor in a rotation through the old and the new building, providing multiple internal and external views. This oscillation offers a greater understanding of the topic of the exhibitions. The extension is "floating" as a clear, structured body above the square. The cantilevered area can be used in many different events, giving a new quality to the square of Karlsplatz.
