Tokerud High School
”Tokerud United” referers architecturally to local and global culture as a comprehensive and distinctive ”learning village” oriented towards both nature and culture. The architecture is therefore conditioned to a human scale with a manifold of forms that make a characteristic building, which appears recognisable and identifiable. The architecture is anchored in both tradition and innovation, through form and materiality – as an educational arena where both past, present and future is relevant for transfer and creation of knowledge. The architecture contains both urban and rural material references - externally preweathered zinc covers roof and walls, while sections of the building have comprehensive use of wood both indoors and outdoors. Natural lighting is introduced to the building through varied and appropriate openings.
