The refurbishment of Villa Heftye was an important task because the building has great historic significance. A key consideration was preserving the characteristic unity of the compound. The project’s main strategy was to reestablish the original order of the rooms with architectural value and to introduce new architectural qualities to those parts of the house that had been modified throughout the years. The new designs were to contrast with the original architecture in such a way that the Villa came to represent distinct quality architecture from different epochs—a close encounter between contemporary and historic spaces.
