Atrium House

Our project for Atrium House at Oslo gate 7 consists of 27 apartments, situated near Ladegården and the Medieval Park (Middelalderparken) in Gamlebyen, Oslo.

The existing apartment building, dating back to approximately 1847, is recognized as having historical significance. It resides within the historic heart of Oslo, in close proximity to the medieval park, important historical structures, and archaeological remnants.

The project involves the renovation of the existing apartment building on the premises and the construction of a new adjacent structure. This development aspires to create a comprehensive facility that harmoniously combines both old and new architectural elements in an appealing and innovative manner. It is designed to honor the site's historical importance and reflect its unique characteristics, setting an example for the sustainable construction of the new building while preserving the existing housing. The proposal accommodates a total of 27 apartments, with 9 situated within the current building and 18 within the new structure.

The new architecture is designed as a square atrium building, inspired by the aim to create apartments with two distinct orientations, one of which enjoys a peaceful setting overlooking the backyard. Its design incorporates materials that pay homage to the historical context while also presenting a modern aesthetic and material quality that represents contemporary architecture. They emphasize that the project aims to provide a versatile and high-quality housing solution, creating an appealing residential environment that offers added value to future residents in comparison to living in the historic old town. The architecture is both robust and in harmony with the location's character.

The architecture of Atrium House, with its rational grid system and exceptional spatial attributes, promises to become a new housing landmark in Gamle Oslo, enhancing the neighborhood as an excellent place to live and be a part of.
