Shortlisted for Competition on Iceland

We are happy to learn that we are now selected for the second phase of the International competition as one of only two teams for the Sævarorhead 31 site!

Reykjavík offered two development-friendly sites for to the competition, and our site at Sævarorhead 31, is a 2.853m² plot characterized by two landmarks, the 40 meter tall concrete silos, which form a part of a 1.641 m² industrial complex that used to house a cement factory.

The complex also includes a packing station and a dispensary. It is an important landmark seen from multiple locations in the city of Reykjavik, and a perfect reminder of the past role of this neighborhood as an industry area and a gateway into the new future urban area of Bryggjuhverfi Vestur.

According to the Municipal Plan, the planned function or operation for the proposed site and build structure, Sævarhöfði 31 is business or cultural activities, but the city opens for a change also in these functions and the buildings´ future role as long as the plans for transforming the area creates sustainable quality, liveability and diversity.

We are looking forward to participate in this global competition for innovative, carbon-free and resilient urban projects, and are truly excited to do this in Reykjavik, Iceland, a place we feel strong connections to.

The Reinventing Cities competition is a call for urban projects to drive carbon-neutral and resilient urban regenerations in cities across the globe to implement the most innovative ideas to transform underutilized sites into beacons of sustainability and resiliency

Proposals will be submitted in February 2021.
