Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter are excited to be one of the four selected teams to participate in the competition for the transformation of "Doverodde Købmandsgård and Pakhus", into Statens Museum for Kunst’s important extension outside Copenhagen!

Doverodde Købmandsgård's and its former grain warehouse is to be rebuilt into new permanent exhibition frames for SMK, at Thy and the aim is to realize the overall plan for the transformation of Doverodde Købmandsgård and SMK Thy, in Thisted Kommune, Denmark.

Statens Museum for Kunst (SMK) is Denmark's National Gallery. The collection of works of art from the 14th century until today has so far only had a home at the National Gallery in Copenhagen. But with the plans for the development of Doverodde Købmandsgård SMK will be permanently present outside Denmarks capital.

The visionary transformation of the former grain warehouse aims to make “Doverodde” into a place where the architecture invites to experience all types of works from SMK’s collection. Within this new framework, it will be possible to show exhibitions created especially for the place, just as there will be teaching and art dissemination of high international standard for the benefit of visitors, from near and far.

It is the vision that some of the best works from SMK should be able to be experienced in close interaction with the place's architecture, history and the surrounding landscape. SMK Thy will be a model for the future, both in terms of local roots and artistic profile.

Købmandsgården is located in one of Thy's most scenic areas and is also the local anchor point for Thisted Municipality's outdoor activities and a continued facilitation for this is an important focus in this development process.

The project competition is held by The A.P. Møller Foundation (A.P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal) in collaboration with SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst and Thisted Municipality
